The Holiday Season will be upon us soon! No wait. Scratch that. The Holiday Season is HERE! YIKES ? We sincerely hope that you will all be able to take some time to join your fellow Darling Double’s moms for a little celebration. Join us December 5th at 6pm at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church for a Kwanzaa themed celebration. Kwanzaa is a colorful celebration of seven basic values which contribute to building and reinforcing family, community, and culture. Does that sound a little bit like Darling Doubles?
I spent several years living and working in West Africa and the expression of family as embraced by communities in this culture is that ALL women of your mother’s age are you ‘mothers’. My home village was truly a place in which the entire village participated in raising the children – myself amongst the children would be scolded for returning home later than expected (and heaven forbid after dark!) or for being out in the rain, or for not taking breakfast, or for not being married…. Here in Colorado Darling Doubles is my village and I derive strength and support from my fellow moms and I want to celebrate our family, our community and our unique culture as a tribe of women with multiples.
We’ll provide a festive environment and dinner. We’ll also be hosting a gift exchange. If you would like to participate please bring a wrapped gift valuing approximately $15, please no gift cards. The gift should be something that whoever ends up with your gift will appreciate (something classy and useful, aka nothing tacky please). Please RSVP so we can plan appropriately for food. Also there will be no new member chat at this meeting.
November Meeting: Community Give Back Event
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” -Gandhi
Darling Doubles would like to invite you to participate in our annual November give back meeting on November 7, 2016 at 7pm. This meeting will take place at A Precious Child (555 Burbank Street, Unit M Broomfield, CO 80020). As an organization, we will be making the Precious Gift Tags to hang on the various Christmas trees around the Denver Metro area.
A Precious Child is devoted to making a positive impact in the lives of disadvantaged and displaced children and families in Colorado by improving their quality of life. During the holiday’s, A Precious Child collects the top three wishes of children in need and they partner with various organizations and individuals to fulfill each child’s holiday wish! Last year alone, A Precious Child handed out over 10,000 gifts to children and families in need.
In addition to making the gift tags, we will also be collecting coats and winter clothing of all sizes. A Precious Child is in desperate need of coats (both children and adult sizes) as we head into the winter months. Please consider going through your coat closets and donate what you will not use to A Precious Child. After all, 1 in 6 families in Colorado are living below the Federal poverty line.
**Due to the location of this meeting, childcare will not be available.**
We’ve all been there…. The INTERNET! Be it Facebook or Pinterest or Scary Mommy we find ourselves searching for, laughing at, and sometimes trying some new gadget or trick to make our lives easier. Sometimes we even get crafty and turn that old piece of junk into a shiny new thingamajiggy magically turning an ordinary item into our new motherhood lifejacket. On October 3rd, 7pm at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church we invite you to bring your favorite Mom Hack for a show and tell with your fellow twin moms. Pool noodles are hitting the clearance rack! Wait did I say pool noodle, I meant magic length of foam tucked under a bedsheet that keeps my kid from falling out of bed four times a night AND for so much less than a bedrail!
As moms we tend to use our phones for everything, especially taking pictures of our kiddos. Come join us at our meeting on September 12th at 7 pm to get a “mom photography” tutorial from Stephanie Jimenez, owner of Blumchen Photography.
Stephanie will guide us through using every day situations to capture our precious memories. Read more about Stephanie:
Blümchen n. [little flower].
Stephanie Jimenez is the artist behind Blümchen Photography, a name honoring her own three amazing “little flowers,” as well as a nod to her German heritage.
Motherhood has become such a bittersweet journey for this mama of three; time seems to fly faster and faster as the years race by. So many precious moments can slip away, she sees her camera as a way to make such moments tangible beyond the present. A moment frozen in time, one photograph at a time.
Stephanie’s style is versatile. She prefers to take a more casual, lifestyle approach to her sessions. Her goal is to capture her subjects exactly as they are in that moment. A moment frozen in time for you to enjoy when those itty bitty fingers and toes aren’t so itty bitty anymore, when the name “mama” becomes “mom,” and when those snuggle sessions don’t happen quite as often as they once did.
You may have recently heard this joke “June’s over? Julying!” and now we’re just days away from being closer to August than June. August brings us to the beginning of a new Darling Double’s year, because State and Federal fiscal years, Julian calendar years, and school years just aren’t enough. We’d like to invite you all to join us Monday, August 1st 7pm
at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church to start your DD year off by reconnecting with your fellow DD moms.
We’ve all been busy with the demands of summer whether that’s been juggling kids out of school, executing family vacations, or bringing home new babies. Hey, speaking of new babies, did you know that August is the highest birthrate month in the United States?!
At our August meeting we’ll take a time out from all those other demands and reconnect with our fellow moms. We’ve got some fun get to know each other activities planned to create new connections, foster old friendships, and inspire a few good laughs. We’ll also have a presentation by our Kid’s Stuff Sale coordinators to bring us all up to speed on our upcoming September sale and we’ll be filling backpacks for A Precious Child.
A true Colorado Spring is upon us, but summer is just around the corner. In the midst of all these blizzards and cancellations, I’m dreaming of BBQs with some iced tea, macaroni salad, and cupcakes, of course! Are you wanting to make some cute cupcakes for your summer events and little cuties’ birthdays? You are in for a real TREAT at Darling Doubles’ May Meeting on Monday, May 2 at 7pm at Cross of Christ Church!
We will be welcoming Jen Cooper of Wholesome Cakes to teach us some tricks for decorating our own cupcakes! Her cakes have been featured at Lucky Pie restaurant and at the Great American Beer Festival! As an added bonus, all of her cupcakes are made with natural and organic ingredients without preservatives, dyes, or GMO’s. They are delicious treats you can feel good about sharing with your loved ones. She will be demonstrating cupcake decorations and then you will have the opportunity to choose several designs to try yourself (and even take home your finished product to enjoy or share!)

As we dive into the New Year, exercise and physical health may be on your mind. Let’s not forget that mental health is a part of your overall health, too, and especially important for moms! Mark your calendars for our meeting on Monday, March 7 at Cross of Christ Church (12099 Lowell Blvd, Broomfield, CO 80020) and come to learn about maternal mental health and how to take care of it and yourself. You could be six months out from having your babies or six years out from having your babies, and it is still important to take care of yourself and your postpartum health. This will also be a great place to learn about symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as how to be a support for your Mommy friends.
Our very special speaker this month will be Mary Schroeter. Mary began her private practice, Integrative Pathways Counseling, in 2012. She has an Expert Clinician Certificate from the Postpartum Stress Institute in Pennsylvania and currently leads several Women’s Health classes at Sweet Beginnings in Littleton. Mary is going to share with us some of her knowledge and experience with postpartum mental health, including ways to cope and resources we can use to help ourselves and our Mommy friends.
We hope you can join us for what is sure to be a very informative and helpful meeting for every Mommy in our club!
