Maintaining a healthy diet is difficult, at any age. From eating out, to the shortcuts we take to meet a hectic schedule, good nutrition often takes second place. Putting the right foods into our bodies is a daily struggle. Fast food drive-thrus and all-you-can-eat buffets lurk on every corner. Fat, salt, and sugar have been added to almost every package on the shelf at the grocery store. Grabbing a bag of chips or a can of soda at the convenience store is certainly a lot easier than peeling an orange or tossing a salad. Join us Monday, June 3, 2013 for creating a healthier you and family!

May Meeting – Fitness

Ready for a Healthier You? 
Are you ready for fun in the sun? Swimsuit season is upon us and Lynn Voorhees with Summit Fit Dojo will get you kick started to get back in shape for the sand beneath your toes. Join us Monday, May 6, 2013 at 7:00 pm to tighten those abs, lift those glutes, and be a healthier you. Learn how to work exercises into your daily routine and make the right decisions for your own health. Come dressed to sweat a bit and leave feeling the burn a bit.
Lynn Voorhees is Summit Fit Dojo’s Fitness Program Director and a Certified Personal Trainer through AFAA. She is also a Certified Sports Nutritionist through one of the leading sports and nutrition organizations in the country. She has great deal of enthusiasm when leading group fitness classes, while trying to help all of her clients reach their fitness goals.
The Crocs 2011 Group will be responsible for snacks at the May meeting.

April Meeting – “My Favorite Tea”

Join the lovely ladies of Darling Doubles on April 1, 2013 for a My Favorite Things Tea. It will take place from 7-9pm at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
What has been your favorite essential item to help with your little ones? Maybe a Moby Wrap allowed you to get more done while keeping your babies happy. Maybe you would go insane if it was not for your Mamaroo, Rody or Yo Gabba Gabba. Maybe you are pregnant and do not know what any of these items are! Bring your favorite baby/toddler/kid item to show and find out what everyone else’s secret weapon is*. You will leave with great tips and a fantastic shopping list for our upcoming Kids Stuff Sale.
Sometimes Moms need a secret weapon for us too. Something to hold ourselves together, speed a process up or allow ourselves to slow down. Do you have a makeup trick that lets you leave the house quick? Is there a website that has saved dinners at your house? Maybe you have a yoga video that keeps you sane. Please bring along your favorite Mom item too and share what keeps you going.
A variety of tea will be served along with traditional tea party food. We will also have some fun games, a photo op and of course you will be surrounded by good company! There will also be some raffle prizes! Please bring a tea cup to use and you are encouraged to wear your white gloves, elegant hats or Mad Hatter hats! We look forward to spending the evening with you.
*a picture in place of a favorite item is fine too. If you are a brand new mom or still pregnant and don’t have a favorite item yet, just come to learn!

March Meeting – Those Amazing Moms Through Her Story

You won’t want to miss Monday March 4th, as Jill S. Tietjen, P.E. presents “Those Amazing Moms Through Her Story,” from 7-9pm at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
What words do you think describe a Mom? Loving, giving…tired, busy, exhausted?
Let Jill Tietjen tell you how Mom means empowerment, leader, and trailblazer! She will share fascinating stories of mothers throughout history that were all of these. Women, who broke down barriers and created paths of noteworthy achievement. Come join us and be inspired by Moms, leaders just like you and the great things they do in their lives!
Jill is a co-author of the amazing book, “Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America.” The book is an illustrated timeline of women and events that gives the reader a unique view of history. Jill is also a well-known speaker, an electrical engineer and one of the top historians in the country on scientific and technical women. She published a book series called, “Setting the Record Straight” and is the CEO of Technically Speaking.
Jill Tietjen was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 2010.

February Meeting – Love in the Trenches

Have you ever asked, “Can I look at Pintrest while doing the deed?” Be honest, at least thought it? If so, tonight is for you! Back by popular demand, Jamie Durbin. Bring your husband for a date night and learn invaluable strategies for connecting, keeping your marriage alive and love, love, love in the trenches.
Love in the Trenches – Jamison and her husband, Troy, together address the challenge of keeping your marriage healthy while raising children. Connection in the Trenches examines the number one priority in marriage – connection – what impedes it, and strategies for maintaining it.
Jamison Durbin is a part-time writer, speaker, jazz vocalist as well as a full time mother of four (Timothy-21, Tommy-19, Johnathan-18 and Jenny Girl-16). She is a graduate of the School of Women’s Ministries and was a member of the MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers) program for ten years. In 1997 she started a new MOPS group in her home church where she was the coordinator until the spring of 2001.
Jamison’s humorous speaking style has been enjoyed at womens’ groups and retreats since 1996.

Languages of Children: 7 Tools for Connecting with Your Child

Join Darling Doubles and Teri Karjala from the Creative Counseling Center to learn creative ways to connect with your child. Explore ways to show your love based on the brain development of your child and learn tools that you can use to positively affect your relationship with your children for a lifetime.
Teri Karjala is a mom of 2 year old Brooklyn and owner of the Creative Counseling Center LLC. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Teri’s credentials also include being a registered Play Therapist and a Colorado Addictions Counselor II. Teri’s passion is helping people through life’s challenges by inspiring and empowering them to live a life of hope, happiness, and harmony.

Toys for Tots are the chosen charity we will be giving back to as a club. Each person is to bring a toy for a tot that would be appropriate for the age group of the small group she belongs to. Bring that favorite toy you know a child the same age as your twins would love. All toys will be collected that evening and given to Melissa and Janeen for delivery. Let’s make this one of the best years for children who need so much and have so little!
